Day 5.2

Although she is asked to travel south
with the caravan, Lily declines and
explains her path lies to the north.

They part graciously.

Sorry this is a bit delayed. Instead of scanning and posting it this morning when I did the other, I opted to sleep, then tour the local BigLots instead.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

As the folk pack the next morning,
one punctures the haze of Lily's nightmare
with coffee, hotcakes, and an invitation.

Good morning! Herculean effort here. I'm slobbery tired, but hauled myself out of bed super early to scan and post this.

Here is the first painting of the new-paper batch. The paper's not as smooth as what I started with, but on recommendation from Amy, I got a watercolor block (of Strathmore 400 instead of 300) and it's working out smashingly.

Please permit me to crawl back into bed for a short while longer...

Day 4.5

Lily's name returns to her that night in the form of a dream--
-- Wyett calling to her from his own sickbed,
and she with no healing to give.

Around the fire that night there are bright laughs
accompanying joyful music. Lily is spun in dancing
circles till all collapse, exhausted.

Lily inquires after the ill one.
They show her to the sickbed with
inviting hands and mistrusting eyes.
She does what she can.

No names are spoken within earshot of Lily,
theirs or her own. She learns they are traveling
traders, but not traveling. One is quite sick.

Day 4

Morning begins before Lily knows it is night.
The folk move about worriedly and speak
in hushed tones. Jack is welcomed gently.

Lily, too.

Day 3.6

The fox leads her toward a ring of tents and
torches and people around an aromatic fire.
Lily is shushed when she tries to introduce herself.

This one gave me a lot of trouble, and was where the wheels started coming off the wagon soon before the hiatus happened... Must forge ahead! Tell the story even if it hurts sometimes! (Using "toward" twice in two parts hurts, too.)

Day 3.5

Near dusk Lily sees lights far to one side of the path.
Despite feeling safer on the open road, she follows
Jack when he veers toward them.

Whew. Here's your minimum (single post) day. Borrowing time on Mrs. Host's computer while she's at work. I'm taking time to schedule posts for all the illustrations I have done. I expect there to still be gaps in posting, but I'll stick to two-per day whenever there is art to show.

FUBAR!!

So my computer is totally borked. I still have moderate amounts of access through the kindness of strangers and strange friends, but nothing to rely on and revel in.

I will do what I can to return to updates (tomorrow was going to be awesome!), but nothing is certain for the time being.

Sad face.

I have not cuckholded thee!

Or myself? How does that go?

In any case, I finally pulled out of my funk and got some stuff done.

(I don't know why the crop is so odd, everything fit fine on the preview!)

Had much fun with these, and I'm too excited at the prospect of doing more tomorrow that I don't know if I can sleep!

Uneasy

Yes... no minimum-day Sunday post.

It's like a wrench in my gut to say this, but Lily and Wyett will be on hiatus until I can source some watercolor paper to replace the stuff I ran out of. (Yes, I checked the local craft store.) I have a couple leads, including one brick-and-mortar store in Nashville to visit next Sunday. The hiatus should be one week, or slightly more.

In the meantime, I'll be doing more writing for Lily and Wyett (I'm very excited about the way things are going!) and working to improve my painting technique.

I'll keep posting art this week (I'm compulsive!), but Lily and Wyett won't return until some time after Valentine's Day.

Yeah. I'll miss them, too.

Day 3.4

Lily tries to fit a name to the fox as they travel.
She calls out several to no response until "Jack"
turns his head and trots back to her.

Sorry this one is up late. Tried something different with the lettering here, but it wasn't the right solution for what I needed. (What do I need? More practice!) The next few days will have some of the most complex paintings I've attempted... did I rise to the occasion? Only time will tell!

Tomorrow will be a minimum day (only one post) to preserve my sanity. These issues may or may not have anything to do with each other.

A short distance into the wood, Lily finds she is
following her leafy companion down the sun-patterned
paths instead of the other way around.

Lily sits on the hilltop, watching the clouds and the grasses.
No need to go anywhere or do anything. Grasses and clouds.

She looks at her feet.
No need to go anywhere or do anything.
She looks at her feet.

Lily thinks of Wyett's adventures on his travels
and doubles her resolve to have her own tales
of excitement to share upon their reunion.

Dashing down the road at full speed
Lily sings every song she can remember
at the top of her lungs.

The ravens see where the rolling
plains submerge into a vast forest.

Borrowing one's eyes with her daily
pinch of magic, Lily see it, too.

Lily camps with the forest looming in the
distance and imagines lights moving within. She
puts out her fire and sleeps beneath a hedge.

The chilly dawn seeps over the sill to illuminate a gift
from Wyett: a physical echo of his voice saying her name.

Lily smiles.

Lily also finds a scroll tied with a yellow ribbon.

Wyett had left a map.

She considers using her daily parcel of magic to bring him back.

She conjures bacon and muffins for her breakfast instead.

Now ready for her own travels, Lily takes
a basket as a helmet and storms the gates
to the wild outdoors.

(Then closes them behind her.)

The first six miles into the eastern wilderness
are familiar. She almost believes today is any
other day and this walk is any other walk.

Lily lunches late on a ledge beneath the last familiar
tree she will pass. She lingers with ghosts and memories.

The sun takes many hours to dip below the far edge
of the meadow, perhaps unwilling to leave Lily
who wishes it did not have to set

Lily curls beside her roaring fire in the all-too silent darkness.
No amount of warmth can banish the chill of entering the night alone.

The live, in their quiet way, on the wild southern frontier.
Lily and Wyett run wild in summer, curl up in winter, perennially in love.

One deceptively peaceful day, horsemen break the silence as they gallop
through the fields with news of chaos and battle in the northwest

By the time Wyett announces his wish to join them and aid his homeland,
Lily has his bags ready: packed with provisions and love.

"Travel to Parlion on the safety of the eastern road.
I will find you there when there is once again peace
on the northern border."

"While you defend the defenseless, I'll search the eastern slopes
for purest color and brightest sounds, making secrets and things unseen."

"And will you miss me?"

"Any day I don't see you, I miss you"

"And do you love me?"

"As long as light casts shadow,
I will love you"

Lily and Wyett have one last dinner together
before they begin their solitary journeys.
They speak only with their eyes.

They curl together deep into the night.

Knowing daybreak will bring loneliness,
both fight sleep as long as they are able.

After falling into a doze, Lily opens
her eyes to find herself in deep darkness.
She is spared and denied a painful goodbye.
